Our Story

How it all started...

In the late 1940s, the Reeder family, of Palmetto, had a vision for a church in the Palm View area north of town. The vision was planted as Palm View Chapel opened on land purchased by the Reeder family in March, 1954, as a church plant of The First Baptist Church of Palmetto. Four years later, having build a new sanctuary (our current Fellowship Hall), the church officially constituted, April 6, 1958, as Palm View First Baptist Church. Located strategically between what is now US Highways 19 and 41, Palm View continues to reach our community with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Expanding the vision...

Beginning on the church's birthday in 1977, Larry Pritchett was called to serve as pastor. He continued to serve until 2018. In those years, Palm View found many ways to reach and serve the community, including being an instrumental part of starting the North River Care Pregnancy Center. North River Care called Palm View home for many years, and still is a treasured part of our ministry as a church.

Palm View has always been mission minded. Beyond participation in the Southern Baptist Convention's and Florida Baptist Convention's Missions offerings, we support the ministry of North River Care, host a food pantry, and have a sister church in Cotorro, Cuba.

Where we are headed...

Our current Pastor, Ryan Akers, is guiding the church to continue in the heritage of mission-mindedness. We continue to serve locally, engage nationally, and take the gospel wherever we go. We exist as a church to form disciples who are grounded in the gospel, gathered in worship, growing in grace, and giving through our giftings. As we continue to grow in these ways, we hope you'll be called to join us in this vision!
